((I know this is from our gnome chars, but this was the preclude to Octal and I defecting to the Horde. This was Shivers and Rolkus (Octal/Oblahda) saying goodbye to their ally guild, Order of Tirisfal. Shivers was known for funny limmericks she would create of guildies during raids (these were back in the days when ZG and AQ were end game), hence the limmerick at the end. We then went on to join Talehook and there met Hammers in BGs and the rest is history as they say. ))
“Rolkus, is this thing working?” Shivers calls to him as she fiddles with a button on a big metal box with speakers, knobs and levers every where. Rolkus speaks into the microphone and his voice comes through the speaker in a tinny whisper, “Testing….one, two , three…”
Shivers yells, “I can barely hear you!!”
“Can you hear me now, “ Rolkus asks as he taps on the microphone with his hand.
Shivers frowns as she hears him trying to talk into the microphone from across the room but can‘t hear him in the speakers. “I am telling you…” she mumbles. “I think we need thresher eyes or something…“ , she grumbles as her voice trails off into a mutter. “ He should have asked Wizbang for the instructions….”, she sighs shaking her head. Shivers adjust a few knobs and a green light on the console becomes a bit brighter.
“Ok, try it now!”, she hollers.
Rolkus clears his throat. Shivers covers her ears and grimaces as his voice comes booming over the speakers. “Dmm…dmm, dmm dmm…dmm, dmm dmm…dmm, dmm dummmmmm.”
Shivers glares at him shaking her head, “NO!!! Not thaaaaat!,” she yells as she charges across the room.
Rolkus is bobbing his head and holding the mic in one hand as his other hand is clenched in a fist and he waves it in the air in a pumping motion. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. Shivers watches in horror as everything seems to go into slow motion as Rolkus opens his mouth to…sing.
“Risin' up, back on the street…did my time, took my chances,” he bellows out then pauses and beats on the microphone: dmm…dmm, dmm dmm…dmm, dmm dmm..dmm, dmm dumm. He pulls the mic closer and continues, “ Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet …Just a man and his will to survive!!”
His voice squeaks a little in his over zealous efforts. He takes a really, really deep breath. His head arching over his back and he jumps straight up in the air with the first note, his free hand punching the air above him.
“It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight…risin' up to the challenge of our rival…and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night….and, he's, watchin', us, all, in the EEEEEEYYEEE…. of the TIAAGERRRR!” Rolkus’ eyes are still closed and he can’t see the ‘look’ Shivers is giving him as she is charging a cross the room. Shivers stumbles over a few of the long speaker box cords and lands flat on her face. When she looks up, her face is bright red and she sighs at Rolkus in disbelief. He is now shuffling around on the box like he is sparing with an invisible opponent. He is swinging at the air in one-two punches with the mic still in one hand. He keeps repeating the “dmm…dmm, dmm dmm” over and over.
Shivers steps up to the box and stands there with her hands on her hips, tapping her foot. She holds out her hand, palm side up and raises a brow. Rolkus finally opens his eyes and grins. He doesn’t say a word, just places the mic in Shivers’ hand and steps off the box. He grins at Shivers as he starts to help her up onto the box, he looks as if he has just won a great award. He sprints down the room, his head tossed back, his arms pumping beside him for speed as he laughs all the way to the console.
Shivers clears her throat, “Testing…one, two….can you hear me down there, Rolkus?” Rolkus gives her two thumbs up, he is still grinning and bobbing his head to the “dmm, dmm dmm” rhythm. Shivers rolls her eyes and begins. She stops just as she is about to speak, “It is recording too, right Rolkus?” Rolkus gives her two thumbs up again.
Shivers pulls out a few parchments from her pack. She drops the whole stack as she is fumbling with the mic. She sighs and picks up the scattered stack and looks at the first page. “Oh no…this page shouldn’t even be here.” She pulls a page from the stack and places it on the podium. She takes a deep breath and begins to read off the page.
“The time has come to talk of many things,” she reads confidently. “ Of shoes and ships….” she stutters and stops and peers at the page closer, looking puzzled. She reads aloud to herself, but the mic picks up the whispers, “and ceiling wax…and cabbages and kings….” She stops and turns the page over. “What is this?! Who is Alice?!” She shoves the paper back in her pack. She pulls out her spectacles and adjusts them on her nose. “Ok…maybe this one.” She shuffles through the papers and pulls a page out. She squints as she somewhat reads the script aloud. “One…cup. chopped…porcini…mushrooms,” she shakes her head. “How did this get in here?!” She shoves that parchment in the pack too, crushing the previous page even further. Shivers shuffles through the pages again and finally pulls one out and holds it up, “Ah ha, here we are.”
She clears her throat and begins, “As you all know. I have somewhat retired from my dungeon adventures with the Order. I haven’t had the time to explore Azeroth and also conduct my research necessary for experiments. Well it seems that I am more of a behind the scenes kind of gnome,” she sighs and takes her spectacles off and stops reading from the page. “I prepared this long speech with all kinds of rationale and persuasive arguments on my resignation but really I must talk from the heart, because frankly that is where you all are.”
Shivers smiles warmly, “So I will keep it simple and completely from the heart. I love you all and I absolutely will always cherish the moments we have all shared. But it is time for me to retire and seek adventures in a more domestic capacity and in my books.” She looks down the room lovingly at Rolkus.
“Rolkus will continue to give the Order any and all the support it needs with loyalty and enthusiasm. And in memory of all that we have shared, here is one last limerick.” Shivers wipes tears from her cheeks and reads from the page again.
The Order stood before Shivers.
Her lower lip started to quiver.
Through laughs and through tears,
She hugged all her peers.
And returns to the home of the tinkers.
