I am Kerrig, Shield of She who Endures.
My Mother and Father were peons who worked in the mines, and when I was old enough, I joined them. It was very hard work, but we did not falter. Indeed, my parents never were hit by overseerers for slacking, they knew we worked hard. Perhaps this is why I was selected to go train as a warrior, because we worked so hard. My Father smiled when I was selected, and then went back to work.
I started training in the Valley of Trials. Many of those I trained with complained that the drill sargeants were too cruel, the training too tough. I did not think so, it was better than the mines, but perhaps for them it was. I kept quiet, but tried to help those that needed help. Is this not what we are supposed to do, work together? If my comrades knew I was there for them, perhaps they would be there for me. Lone heroes do not win wars, armies working together do.
One day, the Valley was attacked by mounted elves and dwarves. My comrades did what we had to do, we fought them, but green warriors did not have a chance. My comrades died, and an explosion from an elven mage threw me back. I got back up and stumbled towards them, trying to get at them again. As I came close I saw a dwarf was laughing at me. He did not laugh anymore when I grabbed his shield arm. It stopped him from raising it to defend himself when a guard pushed a pike into his ribs.
After the battle, they said my training was done, and sent me to Razor Hill. From there I went to battle humans, Kolkar, and pigmen. I also learned the way of the blacksmith. It made sense to be able to make my own weapons and armor, for me and my comrades. It is good work.
One day I decided to travel out of Durotar and see other places. I went to Mulgore. Never had I seen such green fields, or such large trees. I went to the Tauren city, Thunder Bluff, and met an orc shaman named Yagrek. He greeted me, and said he saw my my face in a portent, and that my axe would be needed to help the Ancients. He explained the Four who are One, and of others that followed them. I did not know why his words rang true, but now I see that She who Endures guided me there, to help the Ancients. Then I met Demejoria, hammer of She who Endures. She was very kind to me, and is very wise. She saw in me what I saw in her, the spirit of She who Endures. She asked me to be the Shield of She who Endures, to protect our fellows. I knew then that was what I was meant do.
I thank the Ancients for their blessings, and thank them for giving me such good comrades. I will protect them, and learn from them. It is a good life.
